Aldi coming to Edwalton - on the corner by Wheatcroft Island

A planning application has just been made for an Aldi store plus a care home with some extra-care apartments.

This is on the land between Landmere Lane and the ring road. In other words to the left as you drive into Wheatcroft Garden Centre and where Harry Wheatcroft once grew his famous roses.

The store would have 114 car parking spaces and 10 cycle hoops. Aldi will add to competition with the other stores in West Bridgford.

The 80 bed care home and 9 extra-care apartments would be to the west of the Store. They are to have around 91 car parking spaces.

Access to the store and care home areas would be off Landmere Lane. The plan is to sell the care home and apartments to be run by Octopus Healthcare.

Where is Waitrose? Waitrose had a plan approved for a store and a 'local centre'. This is the large site alongside Melton Road and to the north of Landmere Lane and to the north of where Aldi would be. The Waitrose site, accessed off the traffic lights and island off which Bovis is growing, remains vacant. There is no sign of a local centre for the estate!!!

All the information on Aldi can be seen at https://planningon-line.rushcliffe.gov.uk/online-applications/ look for 18/00460/HYBRID. The 2 reports submitted on 1st March give the overview and there are many other details.

The air quality report relies on desktop calculations. When Cllr Rod Jones asked in Council for the Council's measures of air quality near the 'developments' before they started, the Cabinet Member Cllr Debbie Mason, said that they would only measure it afterwards!
