Irish up in arms in Rochdale and Greater Manchester!

The Irish Community in Manchester have responded with fury after it emerged that England's longest running Irish Radio Programme is being axed in a money saving measure by the BBC. The Parlour, that has been running for 22 years and has interviewed dozens of celebrity guests including Pesident of Ireland Mary McAleese, former Leader of the SDLP and Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize - Rt. Hon. John Hume, Housewife's Favourite Daniel O'Donnell and Manchester United Legend Denis Irwin.

Rochdale MP demands final answer on Metrolink!

Rochdale's MP - Paul Rowen has said "enough is enough" and is demanding a final answer on the future of the Metrolink in Rochdale and Oldham. Paul said, "Transport in Rochdale is suffering as a result of the uncertainty over whether we get the go ahead on the extension. For example, the loopline was downgraded in September and restored in December because of leaves on the line. I don't want that to happen again this year in a move that would leave many passengers frustrated. It's about time that we had clear answers, I am sick of promises that have gone on far too long."

Rochdale MP visits Earthquake Zone!

Paul Rowen MP has just returned from a visit to Azad Kashmir as a member of the All-Party Kashmir Group. The visit was organised by the Pakistan Government to give MP's who represent areas with a large Kashmiri Community an idea of what was happening with the relief effort following the disastrous earthquake last year.

Last ditch attempt to save jobs at Federal Mogul!

Rochdale MP Paul Rowen has met Shop Stewards and Management in a last ditch attempt to save 160 jobs at Federal Mogul. Paul, having spoken to one of the Department of Trade and Industry Ministers involved has been given an assurance that Federal Mogul could qualify for grants to relocate in Rochdale and support for 3 years with any capital costs. Paul said, "The North West Regional Development Agency who administer the scheme have offered to meet the company to discuss this and the Rochdale Development Agency have offered support in finding alternative premises in Rochdale."
