Blair ignores human rights abroad

Liberal Democrat Women and Equality spokesperson Lorely Burt today said the government must not ignore Iran's human rights record: "Although peaceful efforts to detract Iran from producing nuclear weapons are welcome, Blair's proposal to involve Iran in the international community should never detract from the UK's total condemnation of their human rights record."

Eating disorder guidelines issued

New guidelines aimed at improving the care of people with eating disorders have been issued by the health service watchdog. NHS Quality Improvement Scotland has set out treatment plans for conditions such as anorexia and bulimia. It has also made recommendations for treating teenagers and warned about inaccurate information on the Internet.

Mental care of killer condemned

The killing of a man by a violent paranoid schizophrenic was the result of substandard care and failures in the health service, a report has said. John Barrett repeatedly stabbed Denis Finnegan, 50, as he cycled in Richmond Park, south-west London, in 2004.
