Liberal Democrat MP highlights the level of violet crime in the West Midlands

A regional analysis of the levels of crime has found that the West Midlands has the highest regional level of violent crime in the country. The West Midlands has 655 violent crimes per 10,000 people with a total number of 273,000 violent crimes in 2004/5. The UK average is 565 and the second highest is the North West at 613 and 611 in the South East.

Kent Crime Falls

Recorded crime in Kent fell last year, according to Government figures published today. The county has one of the lowest levels of overall recorded crime in the South East, a region with one of the lowest levels of crime in England and Wales.

Southern Water get Go-Ahead for Drainage Scheme

Residents in New Romney, Greatstone & Lydd-on-Sea are to benefit from mains drainage for the first time after Southern Water was given the go-ahead to lay sewers. Connections to the new drainage system will take place over the next two years. Local Liberal Democrats have welcomed the go-ahead, but continue to question the cost to householders to be connected to the new service. It is likely that householders will be asked to pay a significant bill for connection.

Liberal Democrats Win Cheadle By-election

The Liberal Democrats have held Cheadle in last weeks parliamentary by-election. Liberal Democrat Mark Hunter held the seat with 19,953 votes, a 3,657 majority over Tory candidate, the Labour Party lost their deposit after crashing to just 4.6% of the vote.
