Government must rethink abolition of the Post Office Card Account

Commenting on new figures uncovered by the Liberal Democrats that show 28,610 residents in Wolverhampton use the post office card account to receive their pensions or benefits. The Government is planning to scrap the Post Office Card Account in 2010 leaving many thousands without any form of bank account.

Parkinson's therapy trial success

Gene therapy has been shown to have "significant" clinical benefits for people with Parkinson's disease, according to a study. The small-scale trial showed the 12 patients' symptoms improved by up to 65% after a year, with no ill effects.

Rochdale says 'NO' to ID Cards!

Rochdale Council have confirmed their opposition to Compulsory ID Cards at a very constructive debate at a Rochdale Council Meeting. The Council will now refuse to play 'part in any pilot scheme or feasibility work in relation to the introduction of the national identity cards' and more importantly 'Ensure that national identity cards would not be required to access council services or benefits unless specifically required to do so by Act of Parliament.'

GOVERNMENT MUST ACT TO SAVE POST OFFICES

Commenting after meeting a delegation of SubPostmasters from Chesterfield taking part in today's National Federation of lobby of Parliament against Post Office closures, Paul Holmes, Liberal Democrat MP for Chesterfield said: "One third of the Post Offices in Chesterfield have closed since 1997.
