Liberal Democrats launch their Alternative Budget

Today at the launch of the Liberal Democrat Alternative Budget, Liberal Democrat Leader, Charles Kennedy MP and Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, Dr Vince Cable MP, emphasised the need for fairer taxation and tough choices in public spending. The Alternative Budget also includes the party's plans for higher pensions, extra police, smaller class sizes, a Maternity Income Guarantee, scrapping tuition fees, scrapping council tax and free personal care.

Lib Dem Leader attacks Tory 'bureaucracy not services' budget

Liberal Democrats put forward a budget to Chelmsford Borough Council for lower council tax and better services. In contrast, the Conservatives proposed a Council Tax increase of 4% (above inflation) while ignoring young people and hitting motorists. Labour Councilors showed their commitment to local services by not even attending the meeting!

LOCAL MRSA RATES FALLING SLOWLY BUT STILL DEEPLY WORRYING

Asked to comment on the recent figures showing a nationwide increase in deaths from MRSA, Woking Liberal Democrats' Parliamentary Spokesperson, Anne Lee, said "I have been approached by a patient from St Peters who suffered from MRSA after an operation. He is absolutely determined that others should not suffer the same fate. Having been prescribed many medicines, he was only cured when he turned to an alternative method and used a manuka honey. The photos he took of the toilets in St Peters Hospital were disturbing, but he was promised that they would be cleaned."

ANNE LEE PLEASED WITH DECISION TO BAN GPs USING 0870 PHONE LINES

The Department of Health has announced a ban on expensive telephone numbers that charge patients over the odds to call NHS services in their area. St John's Health Centre in Woking uses an 0870 number, and patients had complained to Anne Lee (Woking Liberal Democrats Parliamentary Spokesperson) and the local press. Dr Anne Lee started a campaign in December 04 to get this ban introduced.
