Executive decides not to proceed with new County Hall

Surrey County Council's Executive have decided not to proceed with its PFI contract plans to build a new County Hall in Brewery Road, Woking. They announced this last week, but without revealing which other alternative they want to pursue instead. As a result of questions by County Councillor John Doran (Woking, Horsell) at this week's Council meeting it emerged that the Executive have not yet agreed how best to proceed and an announcement about the future should not be expected for some time.

Dale Keeling the Lib Dem councillor for Freemen spent last Saturday collecting signatures on Great Arler Road for a petition asking the City Council to repair or tarmac damaged grass verges on the busy narrow road.

Report on Scottish Voting Reform "hugely disappointing" says Dundee Liberal Democrat Group Leader

Commenting on the report of the Arbuthnott Commission released last week, Cllr Fraser Macpherson, Liberal Democrat Group Leader on Dundee City Council said, "The report's contents are hugely disappointing. One of the big failings of the current electoral system to the Scottish Parliament is the regional list voting system, which creates two classes of MSPs. Although the Commission recommends a move to the fair Single Transferable Vote System for the European Elections, it merely recommends tinkering with the Scottish Parliament electoral system - this will not resolve the problems.¨
