David Goodall reports: After the result last Thursday I must firstly thank the people of Southampton for clearly voting for the Liberal Democrats in much larger numbers than in the past. The contest in Southampton Itchen is undoubtedly one between the Liberal Democrats and Labour, as people switched in large numbers from Labour to Liberal Democrats and did not see the Conservatives as a viable place to take their vote to.
Peter Carroll has thanked voters across the Folkestone and Hythe constituency for backing him and the Liberal Democrat candidates for the Kent County Council elections last Thursday. Across the area, many thousands of people voted for the Liberal Democrats.
Anne Lee said that the Liberal Democrat votes increased by 17% in Woking at the General Election. She praised her team for delivering a result which went against the grain of a national swing to the Conservatives.

The Liberal Democrat vote in the West Chelmsford constituency was up 3% and overtook Labour to take second place to the Conservatives. Labour were down 4%. Despite being the "official opposition" and facing an unpopular Government, the Conservatives have failed to make much progress.
